Located in Port Charlotte, the museum houses a large and fascinating collection of objects, books, photographs and stories all illustrative of life in Islay from prehistoric to recent times.

The Museum is now closed for the season, reopening for Easter 2023.

About the Museum

The Museum of Islay Life is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation. It is managed by a board of trustees who meet on a regular basis.


Membership of the Museum of Islay Life is open to anyone who is interested in helping the Museum in its aim to conserve and tell the story of Islay. Membership permits free entry to the Museum.  All subscriptions received go towards the running of the Museum.


The Gordon Booth library holds a collection of books, papers and records of Islay. Unfortunately the library will not be available for research purposes until further notice.

A Happy Visitor

Spent an hour inside here without even realising, absolute gem of a place that highlights lots of information about island life on Islay. I especially liked the information available regarding Islay during the wartime years.
