Signage Project

Historical Signage Project

In early 2021, following the success of the WW100 events and exhibitions, the Museum of Islay Life began an exciting new project in partnership with Islay Heritage.

The proceeds of a special WW100 Islay bottling from Kilchoman Distillery, alongside other donations, were set aside to provide a series of new historical information boards around Islay. These will cover social history, and also some of the fascinating archaeological sites on Islay.

A large number of brilliant suggestions for locations and topics were received from people all over the island.
The Museum and Islay Heritage are now in discussion with landowners, to establish which locations and topics are feasible and should be researched further.

We are very hopeful that the first two signs will be in situ in late spring 2022, with the rest to follow throughout the year.

Keep an eye on this page for updates as the project progresses.’
